Storytelling with Author Tammy Chupp
In her book Daniel, author Tammy Chupp explores the tragedy no parent should face: losing a child. A woman of faith, Tammy shares with host Dan Moyle her struggles and her victories when it comes to being a writer and storyteller.
“The number of people I can help, give hope to and reach.” - Tammy on ‘making it’ as a writer
Hope Through Tragedy
Tammy lives in Sturgis, a small town in Michigan. Initially she had reservations about telling her story on a podcast. Like most people, she never considered herself a storyteller but she’s been able to take an unimaginable tragedy, the loss of their son, and use it to give hope to other people in the form of her book, Daniel.
“Take it one step at a time. It’s easy to get overwhelmed with the big picture.” Tammy’s advice to aspiring storytellers
Tammy and her husband have used their story to give hope to other couples that have lost a child to give hope for better days. At first, being labeled an author seemed rather strange to Tammy. It was something she had to wrap her brain around.
Overcoming Self-Doubt
It was difficult for Tammy to write her book and share such personal details. When she sent the first draft off to an editor she got a bit panicky. Did she want to share all these personal details? She put her trust in God.
“I’m a person who feels like she has a lot of self-doubt so peace is really important to me.” - Tammy Chupp
For her it was really just following God’s lead and putting hope in other people. She felt obedient to the calling she had to help others.
Promoting ‘Daniel’
Storytelling has become therapeutic for Tammy. It’s not so much about selling books as much as helping others. But the most effective way she’s found is through speaking, sharing and connecting through social media and word of mouth.
